Almost all of the blogs I read have a syndication feed that I can read through an aggregator (Firefox’s Sage extension). There were still a handful of older blogs that I read that never enabled the use of ATOM when blogger added it. Weekly when I would read these blogs I would always test to see if they had added a feed and this week I noticed that I. Shawn McElhinney’s Rerum Novarum finally did. Now if only he would do something about his template. Whenever I visit his site the color scheme makes me feel like I have been transported back into the days of BBS (Bulletin board system) my hangout before my first text based access to the internet via Telnet, Gopher, etc.
And De Fidei Oboedientia also now has a workable feed (the previous external feed didn’t work).
Here are the blogs still on my naughty list for not having a feed.
Thoughts of Apolonio Latar III (Brilliant theological blog) Update: He now has a feed
Steve Ray’s blog Defenders of the Catholic Faith.
Envoy Encore (They had one at one time but it broke)
Momentary Update: She now has a feed
Oblique House
SecretAgentMan’s Dossier (Whose blog won’t even display in Firefox anymore (at least for me), but SAM is so good I am willing even to use IE)
Sunny Days in Heaven
man with black hat Update: He now has a feed
puritas cordis
The Great Commandment
Heart, Mind and Strength doesn’t have a feed but a reader provided me with a feedburner feed for it.Feed.

Yes, those are some of the same that I often wish had a feed also. Thanks for the HMS feed. Exxxxcellent!
You know what would be even better? If everyone got an atom feed. *poke*
🙂
Shew! It relieves my mind not to see my blog on this list.
SAM’s blog is still viewable in Firefox, you just have to scroll down past the entire sidebar to see any of it.
Since my blog isn’t on that list, am I to assume that either 1) I have this RSS feed thing or 2) you don’t read my blog? (sniffsniff)
Fr. Philip
Fr. Philip,
Everybody that started a blogspot in that last year or so have it automatically enabled. It is only blogs older than that that need to enable it.
Here is a feed with full posts for Heart, Mind, and Strength blog:

David,
Thanks that one is much better.
What is a feed? How do I get one? My technical knowledge has progressed only to the point where I no longer secretly think there’s a little man inside the computer making everything go. Consequently there’s a great deal I don’t understand. What does a feed do?
Here are two analogies to decribe syndication (RSS or ATOM) feeds.
news wire – Think of your blog’s feed as a news wire feed like AP or Reuters. An aggregator of news feeds might be a newspaper or a TV news program. People read the papers and watch the programs that report of matters that interest them. People looking for Catholic posts can subscribe to the St. Blog’s Parish aggregator feed.
TV channel – Think of your blog’s feed as a cable channel. An aggregator of channels might be a cable or satellite package. People subscribe to the package that suits their needs and wants. Imagine an entire cable package filled with channels working from the EWTN model and you have an idea of what St. Blog’s Parish is like.
So, what does it do, collect everybody’s new posts onto one page? And I still have no idea how to get one. If it costs money, it’s out of the question. There’s no place for blogging expenses in the budget.
Go into your Blogspot settings and enable syndication. Then you’ll have a feed at http://mommentary.blogspot.com/atom.xml. No cost. 🙂
I’m really ignorant about computers and the web. I’m not even the one who designed my blog. I just know how to blog. So here’s a dumb question, what exactly is a feed?
Okay, I think I did it. I’m not sure..I went to the settings and said “Yes” to Publish Site Feed. Is that enough?
I’ve done it, and you’ll have to tell me if it doesn’t work. I set it to Short, to show the first paragraph of posts. Would it be better to set it to show complete posts?
What about the fat cat Mark Shea
“Catholic and pretending to be such”!
He thinks he is Pope and that anyone who disagrees with him are heretics, schismatics and bound off to hell, and that only he knows how to interpret a document, when you present him with a rebuttal, he bashes you and threatens to banish you! And he thinks he is actually a Conservative, it just goes to show how far to the left the church is when a former hater of the Catholic church in Mark Shea considers himself conservative
Did someone forget to take their meds today?
I’ve long considered the SSPX one of the more vexatious Protestant sects. I’ve disagreed with Mark dozens of times, but he’s never threatened to ban me. One only needs to to keep a grip on one’s temper and argue from the facts, and it’s perfectly all right with Mark.
John,
I thought you were describing yourself for a minute when you were describing Mark Shea.
Name calling will get you now where you charitable bunch of Catholics you.
Umm…weren’t you the one who just called Mark Shea a “fat cat”? Oh..I get it..name calling is okay so long as it’s not directed at you.
Why, Mr Jester, I had no idea I was making your life such a living hell. Please send me whatever information is required, that you may “be fed” with my daily wisdom, in the manner you richly deserve.
(My sarcasm should not bely my sincerity. After all, I’m supposed to be “naughty.”)
No Greg
Those that who are in the public forum and write books, give speeches and run blogs are to be critiqued and commented on, especially those fat cats like Mark Shea who made a blogger yesterday in his blog say he was depressed, think about horrible things, and question his Catholicism in an argument with Mark Shea or one of his aliases he uses on the blog, while all of Marks lemmings bashed this blogger (a Ziggy stuck in my mind).
If you are one of his little lemmings as well then so be it
So you decide that it is okay to “critique” (that is, call names) somone so long as the person is in the public square. In other words, yes, it is okay to call people names so long as you approve of it.
As it happens, I rarely ever read Mark Shea’s blog as, to be honest, I don’t find it very interesting. I just find it rich that you are objecting to people calling you names but fine with you calling other people names.
Greg
Let me ask you-how many times in these past 4 years have you called George Bush and Idiot, jerk, etc. Or before that Clinton-a cheat, a liar, etc etc
If one wants to enjoy selling his books, giving speeches, and writings and push his brand of Catholicism on the world, as well as his abuse of his bloggers, then he is open for name calling and criticism. I dont like his manners, nor his brand of Catholicism.
So if you can say that you have never called a public figure, one who like Mr Shea is in it for profit and not for charity, then I will apologize. Until then, you owe me one
Of course you criticize people who are public figures! I did not say Mark Shea was not in the public forum. Nor, really, was I objecting to your criticizing of him. What I am objecting to is your calling him names while at the same time objecting if anyone dares do the same to you. That is hypocricy.
“So if you can say that you have never called a public figure, one who like Mr Shea is in it for profit and not for charity, then I will apologize. Until then, you owe me one”
I’ve criticized people in the public square, and admit it! The difference between us is that I don’t immediately turn around and scold someone if they call me a name. I might very well object to the name if it is unfounded and false, but it will be the unfoundedness and falseness that I’m objecting to, not the being called a name in and of itself. As for Mark Shea’s motives, I don’t know what he’s “in it” for, but you, as the one making the accusation, need to back it up with a fact or two (that is, not opinion) or else you’ll leave yourself no choice but to be viewed as a presumptious bigot. As for an apology…get over yourself.
John and Greg:
I’m going to have to insist that the two of you end this catfight of yours, go to your respective corners for quiet time, and allow Mr Miller the honor of freeing me from this technological void, by directing me to whatever means are necessary to provide “a workable feed,” that I may enter into the 21st century with the finest of Catholic blogdom.
Assuming he’s not too famous to read his own mail. After all, he did manage to clean up at the CBA’s this year. Hark, I smell a book deal…
David,
I had sent you the instructions by email earlier, but I will repost them.
In blogger go to
Click on “Settings” tab
Click “Site Feed”
Under “Publish Site Feed” select Yes.
Thanks. The deed is done, and a link has been sent. If there’s anything else…
