Above the law?

Example: Democrats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives took steps toward impeachment when they discovered that President Bush had authorized a secret terrorist surveillance program, under both his inherent power under the Constitution as Commander-in-Chief and post-September 11, 2001 legislation, each completely sufficient authority in itself, after receiving legal advice that he was authorized to do so, and they let up only after it became obvious that Americans overwhelmingly appreciated what he had done and wisely wanted him to protect America from terrorists without letting the terrorists know what he was doing.
Let me get this straight. So Democrats think it’s okay to wiretap Wayne Gretzky’s private conversations as part of a gambling investigation, but not the calls of foreign terrorists to their U.S.-based terror cells?
???

Do they think it’s okay to tap Wayne Gretzky’s phone without a warrant?
Is a warrant needed to wiretap terrorists overseas?
Don’t you think there is a lot of mixing apples and oranges- internal and external forum- moral and civil spheres when you accuse these Catholic politicians of “hypocrisy”? Bush is breaking the law of the land enacted in statutes passed by the Legislative branch which Bush and his cronies summarily ignore. Along with Senator Byrd of West Virginia- “I weep for my country!”
The element of conscience in the choice of these politicians to act as they do needs to be taken into consideration. Many of them also show more sensitivity to the Christian attitude on peace and justice than many of the hard-hearted “unconpassionate” conservatives in Congress. As long as K-Street lobbyists make it so lucrative to stay in Congress these clones of Newt-and worse will hang around Capitol Hill. Unless the people rise up and evict them electorally.
From a foreign point of view, currently the legislative branch is ignored by the Executive and the Judiciary.
Why they dont just go home?
“Bush is breaking the law of the land enacted in statutes passed by the Legislative branch which Bush and his cronies summarily ignore.”
Boy, whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty”?

Says who? Poverty can be fought in a number of ways. Big government types prefer income redistribution and entitlements. Small government types would rather allow the market to play a role.
As for peace… who says the Republicans are in violation of the Just War Theory? The late Holy Father never did. Benedict XVI has not as well.
Saying that Democrats are more in-line with the Church’s teachings on peace & social justice (ignoring life issues) is a gross over-simplification. Fighting poverty is not about simply handing out money. Teach them to fish as well! Fighting a war in accordance with the Just War Theory is not as easy today in light of the existance of well-financed Islamofascist wackos.
The point is that many politicians that identify themselves as Catholic refuse to adhere to the Church’s teachings on abortion and euthanasia. They are therefore hypocrites when they choose to not obey canon law and criticize the current administration for “being above the law.”
Amen, Big Tex.
