I was thinking about the first time I heard about Priest for Life. I saw Fr. Frank Pavone on EWTN and as he was introduced I misunderstood what Priests for Life meant. I thought well it was good that an organization encouraged priests to remain priests for life, but I thought it was bad theology since a priest is a priest forever like Melchesidec. It wasn’t until much later that it finally dawned on me that they meant priests supporting the pro-life movement.
On a related note they are having a discernment retreat later this week for potential seminarians because they are starting a new community called the Missionaries of the Gospel of Life. I just hope one of those with a vocation for the priesthood might also be a web designer. The Priests for Life site really needs some healing. It looks like it was designed on Geocities circa 1996. For a site that has 35,000 daily visitors – well you wouldn’t think it would look so – well – amateurish. Though I guess it is a lot better than the majority of sites for individual Catholic Churches where not only is the design minimalistic but the bulletin in PDF format is almost guaranteed to be six months old.

This is not a bad idea. I’m not a webdesigner myself but my brother is (and he’s a practicing Catholic). His employer is also Catholic (and American :-)). I might try to hook him up with the guys from PFL and see what happens. (And God bless those seminarians)!
Well, good luck. Priests for Life is a great organization and gets a lot of press, but it is tiny. I think there are only a few priests actively a part of it (and the one I spoke to, Fr. Quinn, seemed to indicate that they didn’t want more to join when I recommended they get more members). They are pretty stubborn and very old school (which is good in some things, but not when it comes to web sites).
Sisters of the Gospel of Life, or rather their work (note nattier website)

David,
As I understand it, this new association “The MIssionaries of the Gospel of Life” is fairly recent and only began in earnest in the last year, when Bishop Yanta of Amarillo welcomed them to his diocese. In that sense Priests For Life has never been, nor was ever intended as a religious order, but as an organization or foundation to provide support to ALL priests to effectively preach (and live) the Gospel of Life – so they weren’t looking for priests “to join” so much. Now with this new inititative, they will have a society of priests who are dedicated specifically to full-time pro-life ministry. I hope the Lord sends them many vocations.
LOL. I just had a similar moment when I opened berenike’s link. The header says “The Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative” and I thought, “Oooh, another set of awards I haven’t heard of?” Actually the group was set up by Cardinal Thomas Joseph Winning. Oops.
There are the Sisters of Life in the Archdiocese of New York. They are pretty incredible. You can check them out at http://www.sistersoflife.org .
Jeff,
This had me laughing. You’re funny even when you’re not writing parody!
