St. John of the Cross, Priest and Doctor of the Church at Catholic Fire.
Juan de la Cruz at The Weight of Glory.
A feast or a fast asks Steven Riddle
And my contribution to this great Doctor of the Church is of course the Dark Night Light of the Soul.

Well, I appreciate kitsch, but only if it’s sold at a flea market and still works. At least they showed that it lit up.
However, it ought to be a bit melted or crispy, since it is St. John of the Cross.
For those that don’t indulge, the highlights from the Office for today’s saint include that St. Teresa of Avila prevailed upon St. John of the Cross to reform the Carmelites (just think of that, how bad could they have been?) as well as these snippets of 16th century Spanish wisdom:
The soul cannot enter into these treasures, not attain them, unless it first crosses into and enters the thicket of suffering, enduring interior and exterior labors, and unless it first receives from God very many blessings in the intellect and in the senses, and has undergone long spritual training. . . . The gate that gives entry into these riches of this wisdom is the cross; because it is a narrow gate, while many seek the joys that can be gained through it, it is given to few to desire to pass through it.

I always knew my patron saint was electrifying….
