It was bad enough when the mother of Katelyn Sills was banned from the campus of Loretto High School and now Katelyn Sills has been expelled. I guess she will have to change the name of her blog to Stand Up and Speak Out and Be Expelled. So let me see if I get this straight. In a city named Sacramento if your mother provides proof that a drama teacher is an abortion-escort and the Bishop takes charge and subsequently fires the teacher that the response of the school is first to ban the mother from campus and then expel the student. I guess that since this school is named Loretto that they didn’t jump the shark but flew over it instead. I wonder if Bishop Weigand is allowed on campus?
I totally agree with Funky Dung when he asks:
I wonder, though, if the irony might be lost on some of them. I wonder how many people are filled with glee as a result of this, ignorant of the hypocrisy of saying that a teacher shouldn’t be fired from a Catholic school for her manifest participation in grave sin, but a student should be expelled for publicly supporting her mother’s exposure of that teacher’s deeds. Then again, maybe nobody will think or say such things.
The president is Sr. Helen Timothy, htimothy@loretto.net, and the principal is Sr. Barbara Nelson, bnelson@loretto.net.

Don’t worry about Mrs. Sills. The biggest problem she has now is keeping the woodwork of the front door from being gnawed off by every hungry lawyer in the state of California. Sr. Helen will be lucky if she has a school to her name by next year.
Well at least we all know where the good sister stands on this. Although I am sure that story will be that the girl was expelled because her presence was a “disruptive influence that created an atmosphere not conducive to learning”
This is outrageous.
Has the Bishop also been expelled? Ridiculous.
Unbelievable! Assuming that the child was expelled for no reason other than for her mother’s identification of an abortion facilitator, what can one conclude? The following may be uncharitable: How can one reconcile this reprisal with Christianity?
My (arthritic) knee-jerk reaction: it appears the so-called “religious sisters” have acted more like Hitler or Stalin than as Christians. Their act seems neither charitable nor Christ-like (forgive all injuries; forgive us our trespasses as we forgive . . ).
Do they think they acted as Christ would have?
I don’t imagine if you saw a picture of those two “Sisters”, there’d be a habit in sight.
I think my dream scenario is for Ms. Bain and the Sills both to sue the school, and both to win.
Loretto Student Expelled
Unbelievable.
They probably thought she was dangerous to the school because her mother dared to speak out against a teacher who was not living by Catholic morals (who taught in a Catholic school, nonetheless), and she supported it.
What is wrong with the world nowadays, where you can’t even find Catholic support in a place labelled “Catholic”?
Prolife Teen Expelled from Catholic High School
One only need read the thoughtfulness of how Katelyn Sills and her family addressed this whole issue to see that this is an articulate and bright young lady who has a passion for protecting innocent life.
It’s time to take action!
I recall as a wee Catholic it would have brought shame on my family if I were to be expelled from my Catholic school. It meant that I had done something profoundly wrong.
If my children were expelled from their Catholic school today because I’ve spoken up for the rights of the unborn, and they in turn championed that effort, I would be proud of my children.
I’m proud of the Sills.
I wonder how many e-mails the good Sisters have received. Last week, I sent a gentle one to Sr. B. the principal supporting the Sills… nary a response.
Elinor,
As a member of the legal profession, I have to object to your characterization of those who would represent Katelyn or her mother in this matter. There are plenty of pro bono attorneys out there dedicated to upholding religious freedom and rights. By appearance, it doesn’t seem that the Sills family will be out to destroy a school or enrich a lawyer. What’s just is just. Lawyers achieve that for people every day. Sometimes even for no recompense.
St. Thomas More pray for us!
On Katelyn’s website she pointed out that the student handbook says any student advocating for abortion would be subject to dismissal–wonder how her situation squares with the handbook?!
