Katelyn Sills has updated her blog with information about her dismissal. She has released a series of emails between her mother and Sr. Helen. These are the emails as to which the charges for dismissal were based on that supposedly displayed "threats," "abuse," and other "malicious" behavior toward members of the Loretto community. I have read through the whole series of emails and it really becomes difficult to understand the schools decision as other than irrational.
Dear Mrs. Sills,
You threatened me in an email. You will not be permitted on this campus. No assistance is needed to arrive at Shadow Day.
Sr. Helen
She asked for clarification as to when she was threatened and refereed back to a previous email. It appears that this was suppose to be the threat.
For if Loretto and the Diocese deem it acceptable to employ an aggressive, openly, pro-abortion teacher, all families, including ours, deserve to know of your decision before subjecting our daughters to such an unsafe environment.
So after three weeks of the school stonewalling and not doing anything about the teacher and part time abortion-escort the mother "threatened" to tell other parents about this. This can only be perceived as a threat if you want to cover something up and do not want it to be exposed.
Some response from Sister Barbara were especially surreal.
"Just because a person volunteers at Planned Parenthood does not necessarily mean they support abortion,"
and
"Mrs. Sills, you would be very surprised if you knew the number of Catholics who receive services at Planned Parenthood"
Those replies must have been especially maddening and they are just bizarre. Last I knew contraceptives were also against Church teaching. Besides the job of a abortion escort is not to help old ladies across the street, but to act as cheerleaders for those women seeking abortions.
If these series of emails are truly what lead the administration to first ban her mother from the school grounds and then to dismiss her then I don’t see how they will have a leg to stand on if they go to court.
The school has treated Ms. Bain much nicer than they have treated the family of one of their students. The school said "Ms. Bain has graciously" agreed not to pursue legal action. Real gracious after receiving a bribe in a payout not to. Help mothers murder their children – get a payout. Complain about an abortion escort being employed at a Catholic school – why of course get dismissed and slandered.
Updated: Removed section on what I misconstrued as the being the schools initial good response which was actually what the mother expected the reaction to be.

I think the lesson in all this is “homeschool or else.” There’s a great series of articles over on Fifth Column on the failure of Catholic Education (based on his new book). Here’s the latest:

I seem to recall a certain well-known heterodox gadfly on St. Blog’s speculating that the young Miss Sills likely was dismissed because a crazed pro-lifer phoned in a bomb threat to the school.
No doubt he’ll find a creative way to deflect accusations away from Sr. Helen and the administration.
If you go to the Sisters of Loretto website, you will have a hard time finding the word, Jesus. I did and couldn’t find it, but I didn’t cover everything in looking. They also gave Sr. Gramick, the nun who was told to stop ministering to gays because she was doing it not according to Church teaching, a place of refuge.I found their website doing a search and no longer remember the name.
Just a clarification:
What you have described as “the initial response” was NEVER GIVEN. Instead, these words represent what my mom HOPED to hear.
“Yes, Mrs. Sills, we have received your information and if proven to be true, certainly share your concern. We are looking into the situation and will eventually get back to you. In the meantime, considering the preponderance of evidence, as a precaution, Ms. Bain will be placed on paid administrative leave for the protection of our young women at Loretto. Thank you very much for this information.”
Loretto’s administration has never indicated that they share our family’s concern.
Katelyn,
I think it is obvious that they don’t share your concern and are in fact hostile to it. You and your folks have been above board the whole time and this release of information, has in my mind, served to stifle any possible meaningful arguments against your family’s position and reputation, and has also validated what most of us suspected about Loretto from the beginning.
You are still in our prayers.
Yes, Jeff, you need to fix that before someone gets the wrong idea in thinking that the Sisters were actually responding in an appropriate way.
I would like to know how Sr. Barbara is so informed about who goes into PP.
I’m pro-life, do you think PP will let me volunteer there? Would I want to?
I hate to say this about a nun, but Sr.Barbara’s comment was very lame.
I’ve never been to Planned Parenthood. Do they actually ASK your faith? Quite a HIPPA violation there I should think.
Rick messed up the flow, so now I must clarify: “fix” the initial response.
No offense, Rick :p
Teresa,
Apparently the kinder gentler baby-killers do. The infamous Dr. Tiller offers the services of a chaplain and funeralish services.
Of course the chaplain pictured has been dead for over a year, but word is that they have a new one.
Note that the url I linked for the ‘new one’ is actually on a pro-life site.
“Ms Bain has GRACIOUSLY” agreed…
Does Sr B. mean it in the sense of being pleasing in the sight of God, or Grace-filled?
Or is it just the nun’s way of saying “Thank God* she didn’t sue”
* God of course being the universal energy force
The Sacramento Saga Continues
This has been Rick Lugari’s “story” since Day One.
My guess is sister is out of the habit.
This is a very sad case for the Church as a whole not to mention Katelyn Sills and her brave family. But it should come as no surprise to those of us who have had dealings with many liberal or so-called progressive Catholics, or for that matter, many liberals or progressives period.
For some reason, many of these people are amazing hypocrites, deceivers, and often fulsomely hostile to positions that may challenge them. What makes these folks so utterly obnoxious is that they pander to the concept of Love while doing its exact opposite. And can easily disregard any concept of justice.
As a former Lefist (and activist) up till the mid-1980s, I have had the distinctly distasteful experience on several occasions of being subjected to their version of Maoist re-education. Until I realized that I was dealing with constitutionally angry people (and the nuns are the worst), I felt utterly assaulted and abandoned.
So take heart, Katelyn. Know that God is with you and your family for doing the holy, brave and honorable thing. I consider you a heroine and now a veteran of this kind of strife. The sisters, may God have mercy on them, will have to answer to a higher Authority as we all will.
I find it hard to read that blog. The responses from current and former students at Loretto are depressing (e.g. “abortion is not a religous issue, it’s a political issue”).
Well it seems like the industry is alive and well. If you want to kill the Democratic Party confirm Alito and further more make it manditory that you have to be pro-life rather than pro-choice to be anything in the country. Killing its young is killing its future
The lack of any logic here by the comments made is simply astounding. I suppose Ushers ( Loretto probably prefers the term “hospitality minister)do not necessarily support religious worship? Reminds me of something I heard from a representative of VOTF I had the pleasure of debating recently. I can imagine that membership in VOTF is mandatory for a Loretto Sister.
Loretto High School: Run by Dissenters?
Let’s get real here: Sisters who are authoritative, paranoid, and see “threats” in the most sincere of emails are themselves afraid that their own dissent will become known. Loretto High School’s administration, particularly Sister Helen Timothy, co…
Am I the only one who gets creepy 1984 and Logan’s Run images from Sister’s use of the terms “comply”, “directive”, and “escalate”?
I see sister as a brain-in-the-jar type character, or maybe as a human/computer hybrid sitting in a circular bank of computer screens monitoring the situation for any “anomalous thoughts”.
And the asst principle’s video stalking of the mother to check for “facial expressions”? I half expected to hear that Patrick McGoohan had burst through the auditorium doors screaming, “I am not a number, I am a free man!!!!”
These can’t be Catholic nuns can they?
I really cant understand what has happened to our Catholic education and schools, including universities. William Donahue, whom I really admire, made a big stink how all of these catholic universities had proabortion speakers at their commencement address, not to mention how the Bishops at the latest synod, while proclaiming it “The Year of the Eucharist” still actually could not agree NOT to give our Lord to the likes of Pelosi, Kerry, Guiliani, and Kennedy to name a few. I dont want to be a basher here, but the church has really dropped the ball in these past 20 years or so. I remember even back 30 years ago when you would not see a NY Daily News or Times writer bash the Catholic church the way it does today, for fear of a Catholic backlash of not buying the paper or editorials or even the Cardinal speaking out, especially Spellman.
Now, I guess after the Council, we sold ourselves as just like the rest of the faiths and fair game. We used to have grand church’s with esteem, taught that we were the One True Church founded by Christ, his Bride. Now we are taught that all faiths are good and we should look for the good in all faiths and can even worship with them!
I dont fault these sisters as even the Bishops did not have enough guts to ban communion from Abortion supporters
God bless

I think that the Sisters of Loretto are actually a different order from the one which runs Loretto School. IBVM does list the Loreto Sisters on their website, but with one “t”.
I read elsewhere that since the school is run by an order of nuns that they local bishop can’t do anything further about it. Apparently, it would have to go to the Vatican. That is where, IMO, it should be taken.
Now I understand; they are in fact The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary aka Mary Ward Sisters. Why promote Faith, Hope and Charity when the world really needs Freedom-Justice-Sincerity? An English order founded by Mary Ward. She promoted outrage at the time by proposing that her women religious should not be cloistered, allegedly to combat the effects of the reformation by being undetected. Sadly, the order has due to this inspiration become one of the most secularised orders, rapidly going down the tubes.
It’s kind of like saying “Just because I helped hold up the store doesn’t mean I was for the robbery.”
Then why did you do it?
Sadly, many orders of nuns are in this situation in the U.S. While they don’t exactly say they are pro abortion, the website of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the umbrella group for major superiors of nuns in active orders, treats with sympathy the so called ‘Vatican 24’ who signed the pro abortion ad in 1984, and refers to this as a conscience issue.
Another order like this is the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters. One of their members, one Sister Donna Quinn, is leader of the National Coalition of American Nuns, a very pro abortion organization if ever there was one.
I emailed the prioress of this group to protest part of their website which congratulated this woman. Her response was that Sisters are encouraged to develop their consciences, no matter what.
By the way, the order Gramick belongs to is the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross (SL), six of whose members signed the ad referred to above (with the addition of Gramick, who also signed the ad while a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, there are now seven pro abortion Lorettos).
The order that runs Katelyn’s school is the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Loreto (IBVM). The word Loreto comes from the fact that the independent Irish branch, founded in 1821, had only three members, reminiscent of the Holy Family.
