A reader sent me this link chock full of photos from Juventutem – JMJ Cologne 2005. I am still waiting for World Middle-Aged Day or perhaps World Misspent-Youth Day. Maybe I will just have to be satisfied by coming up with a parody post along those lines.

I love it! A World Middle Age Day is something I could really get behind! 😉
A Middle-Aged Day parody would be great. It could be a reunion of gray-headed dissidents, with women “priests” and excomunnicated theologians, with the motto ‘We came here to whine’ or something similar, all in the “spirit of Vatican II”.
To me World Middle Age Day (or something like it) would be the concert with Journey/Styx/REO Speedwagon all together with ALL the original singers. Ahh well…Okay, not overly religious, but it does take be back a few (ahem)decades.
I qualify for World Middle Age Day, but also for the World Failed Has-Been Day…
I’m not sure though that I’d want to spend a lot of time with losers like myself!!!
World Traditional Catholics day?
World Angry Cheated Catholics Day? (oh YEAH!)
(Excuse me while I go off to cry, rage, laugh insanely and generally vent some pent-up angst…)
Yeah for World Middle Age Day! Hey Alice, this just in, the rewrite of our “classics” for WMAD:
“The Best of Times (Are When I’m Alone with Christ)”
by Styx
“In Your (Papal) Letter”
REO Speedwagon
“Don’t Stop Believin’ (in the protection of Mary)”
We’d be a slower moving herd to the platform, but no less enthusiastic. A few more amendments:
-Midnight Mass changed to 9:00 pm
-more porta-potties
-large print schedules (St. Bifocal, pray for us)
Break out sessions on: “Back to Catechetics: For the 70’s Impaired,” “Dental Meditations” (now that you have an additional 15 minutes to your routine), by Fr. Flossio, and “Ending Liturgical Abuses Once and For All,” by Archbishop Kaput
Would I be out of line to suggest that World Middle Age Day takes place annually in Milwaukee, as the city hosts the Call-to-Action conference each November. Besides all their misguided railing against the “instituttional church” the standard whine one hears from that set is: where are all the young people? (I think their “youth” category even goes up to 40!)
Granted, they cannot hold a candle to the enthusiasm and the fidelity of the WYD group (especially Juventutem) !
LOL – excellent rewrites Teresa!
“-large print schedules (St. Bifocal, pray for us)”
Large print indexes in the back of hymnals, at least! I can hardly read them at all and I already wear bifocals.
My sister’s there right now!!
The youth group kids were SO HAPPY… they’d get out of working the church festival this year (the youth group kids do serious grunt work for 6 and a half days).
Their service project?? Helping at a parish festival in Cologne *snicker*
God will not let them escape.
I would totally attend World Misspent Youth Day. Everybody would tell I-can-top-that stories about the damnfool things we did when we were young, and we’d all go home feeling much better. Possibly it might even put an end to those sudden attacks when we cringingly remember one of our appalling follies and silently scream to ourselves, “What was I thinking of?”
