Dawn Eden earlier this week posted a story about NARAL picketing outside of a crisis-pregnancy center with signs such as "FAKE CLINIC." It reminds me of the ridiculousness of our current laws. Pro-abortion supporters can protest directly outside a pro-life clinic without breaking the law, but pro-life supporters are forced to protest at the distance of a buffer zone from an abortion clinic. The Supreme Court has certainly handed down some outrageous decisions and the though of a buffer zone is certainly on of the most outrageous. Where is the equal protection when only one form of protest is singled out for special rules against free speech.
Their carrying signs that said "FAKE CLINIC" is especially ironic. Aborturaries don’t offer medical services that perform healing. They don’t heal what is broken, rather they kill both the life of the child and as a consequence do serious damage to the psychological health of the mother and can cause other possible medical side effect. A clinic where you are worse off when you came out then when you went in is by definition a "FAKE CLINIC." The other irony is that the "health of the mother" clause has been used to keep abortion legal for all circumstances. The clause has been legally extended to the psychological health of the mother. The irony is that this extension of the clause to psychological health should result in the stopping of abortion not the extension of it. Again our laws have gotten it totally backwards.
Abortion supporters though have built up an immunization to irony. Only someone who is irony-impaired can call themselves "pro-choice" and protest against one side of the equation of choice. They dislike being called pro-abortion and want us to believe that pro-choice means that the mother can choose between continuing a pregnancy or abortion. Yet what was the last time you drove by a Planned Parenthood Maternity Ward or a NARAL sponsored crisis-pregnancy center.

The irony of pro-choicers not really being pro-choicers is a hinge in the argument in this article in the latest edition of Notre Dame Magazine, calling for the search for common ground between pro-lifers and pro-choicers:

If they support “choice,” why is it that they protest someone for offering an alternative – a choice – to abortion? And they certainly don’t support “choice” in the sense of allowing people not to adopt their value system.
Couldn’t be that they’re just liars euphemistically using the now-Orwellian word “choice” when they mean “abortion,” could they?
Yes, many of them don’t really support choice. But there are some genuinely pro-choice people. At least, I used to be one, and I don’t think I was unique. My much-repeated line used to be “No woman should ever be forced either to continue a pregnancy or to have an abortion.” Young women being forced to abort by their parents or boyfriends bothered me as much as China’s forced abortions.
Although I have since adopted the Church’s viewpoint, at least I can say I was genuinely pro-choice back then and would never have tried to close down a crisis pregnancy center, deface pro-life signs, etc. Crisis pregnancy centers did bother me though, because I thought pro-life people deceptively used the promise of free pregnancy testing to lure young women in and then browbeat them into choosing what the pro-lifers wanted, not what the women themselves wanted. I won’t deny that many of the people protesting crisis pregnancy centers are more interested in promoting abortion than real choice, but it is possible that at least a few think the way I used to and are protesting because they fear the crisis centers are trying to interfere with choice by bullying pregnant women. They may all be wrong, but that doesn’t mean they are all “liars”.
Gee, I can’t tell you how comforting it is to know that the people who support the killing of innocent babies may, in fact, not be lying about it.
What sort of Clinic is that ? Imagine a clinic that doesn’t injure a Mother and kill her child !
That is just so “unmodern”.
Everybody knows by now, the way to help a woman in crisis is to kill her child.
It’s only a mater of time before they start offering a new service, to “bump off” two year olds for crying. They might do twins for the price of one. They might even offer to take care of Grandma, if your really committed to this, the “new”, “clean”, and “friendly” ways of avoiding responsibility !!!!!
They are for “choice” as long as the “choice” is abortion.
So, I’m putting myself in the place of a woman preparing to enter this CPC, and the sidewalk pro-abortionist counselors have their “Fake Clinic” signs. What sort of conversation transpires? “Don’t go in there, honey, they’ll only force you to allow your embryo to progress to babyhood.”
Does that actually work?
I mean, would a woman stop in her tracks and say, “Huh. Well, indeed I was GOING to go in there and see if they can help me permit this clump of cells advance to personhood… but now that you mention it, I reckon I ought to go to the abortuary. Thanks!”
My point is, I believe most women entering a CPC have already come to the conclusion that they are in fact carrying a baby. Their baby. They seek help to assist in caring for this baby. When a woman enters an abortion clinic, they’ve either determined that it isn’t a baby, or it is a baby and it’s alright to destroy, or they aren’t sure and they just want the problem to go away.
Some pro-life witnesses outside clinics information abortion alternatives (adoption), information, and support (medical care/housing) to the pregnant woman in a gentle, non-judgmental way.
Whoops…”some pro-life witnesses….give abortion alteratives….”
I have said this before, if we allow all abortions to be free, and I mean free.( No money made by the doctors, nurses, or those who run the facility) Every abortion clinic and hospital abortion service would cease to exist after about a month. Money talks, and no one will be talking if their isn’t any to be made. Abortion is a money making business, and to have them lie and say it’s about the mother, and her health is insulting to anyone with a brain. How about the courts have the abortion clinics and the others all advertise that they suck the life out of uninformed women and young girls? That those women and girls will most likely end up in psych wards later on in life and that for most of them they will live on anti -depressants until they take their lives at some point. You know, at least with smoking, the cigarettes have a warning printed on the side of the pack. Like I said…it’s all about the money. Old men living off the lives of the unborn, and exploited women and young girls. Wow, I’ll bet some of them like to be called grandpa too. (sickening).
