Coming home I was driving behind a truck that on it’s back window was advertising Christian Karate. It also had various Bible verses written on the back also so that ruled out Christian simply being a last name. It got me wondering about what would be Christian Karate? Would it include a "turn the other cheek while delivering a round house kick" move? Would there be various levels of Bible belts from white to black awarded based on scriptural and martial knowledge? Maybe breaking concrete slabs with a picture of Satan on them with you bare hands formed together in the prayer posture. Training could involve carrying a really heavy cross daily to build up endurance.
Well I should have known it. Before speculating I could have Googled and found the Christian Karate Association
The Christian Karate Association stresses the importance of having a close relationship with God. During class, students will be required to read and memorize Bible verses along with learning different Christian Character Qualities. These will be required for passing each belt test. Some of the Character Qualities include: Endurance, Patience, Loyalty, Self-Control and Boldness.

Maybe we can send the Catholic Ninjas to ‘visit’ the priestess cruise?
usually i think that stuff’s silly, but i’m at least willing to hear them out. It seems like they’re focusing on the RIGHT christian qualities and not just fluffy bunny christianity.
My reaction is fairly close to Tammy’s. It’s not a bad way to combat the mainstream “eastern religion” craze. I’m not sure how much spiritual aspect there is to karate but at least here it will be phrased in Christian terms, and linked in the children’s minds to Christianity ruther than some sort of “zen”.
(I’m sure my ignorance is showing here…)
The Curt Jester on “Christian Karate”
Taking themselves way to seriously! The Curt Jester has the story Why do certain affliations of Christians believe that they must explicitly consecrate every phenomena in society?
A MEN !!!
Hey, it works!!! And I second the idea that our highly trained Catholic Ninja should be sent on anti-priestess missions…
Local Catholic and Protestant homeschooling families make liberal use of karate lessons for their kids. Apparently it teaches self-discipline, respect, focus, and learning to set and achieve goals. Plus, you don’t have to worry so much about your fragile daughters being caught out late at night. 🙂

What fun would that have been? We always indulge in the most extravagantly fantastic speculation on odd things like that, before finding out what they’re really about. We decided that these duck’s-head stickers you see on cars were a gang symbol, and that anyone other than a gang member who was seen with green feathers on his head would be shot on sight. How disappointing to find that it was merely a hunting and conservation group.
When I brought up self-discipline with my priest, he divulged that he had attained black belt in karate. My imagination flared with all manner Hong Kong style film scenes…good versus evil and all that. My response to him was…right on.
Must be part of the Judo-Christian tradition.
Ninja Prayer: Bless us Oh Lord, Your honorable Ninjas as we look to these thy Priestesses who have disgraced you and your Church. We ask for your blessings of strength for your loyal Ninjas before we knock some sense into these Priestesses, as they wait defiantly for the butt kicking that they are about to recieve. Amen.
When I was at Notre Dame, I saw a couple of guys in formation at the seminary fight in the Bengal Bouts.
Maybe we should look at what the Catholic Church teaches…here is a quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
2264 Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow:
If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful. . . . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one’s own life than of another’s.
Here is a good catholic karate article:
