Yes it is time for another VOTF survey that as Seekeroftheway says we can skew.
And when it comes to VOTF I say skew you.
There are only a couple of questions (around five) and they are as biased as the questions in any survey from the Main Stream Media.
They start off
With regards to Fr. Thomas Reese’s resignation from America, do you feel
Cue Peter Frampton and Do you Feel like we do. Not think or believe, but the oh so typical feel
It was appropriate – as a Jesuit priest, he should only reinforce Vatican teaching.
Get it – yep "Vatican teaching" as if this is somehow different and separate from Catholic teaching. Is it that I converted to the Vatican faith and would that make me a convert to Vatholicism?
It was the right action on his part to maintain the magazine’s autonomy.
No right answer for that one. Maintain the magazine’s autonomy? This is like a planet leaving its orbit and wanting to still be considered part of the solar system. Autonomy from truth is slavery.
It was punishment because Fr. Reese challenged institutional Church’s authority.
For VOTF the word institutional is bandied about as a swear word – except of course when it comes to the institutional leadership of VOTF. Remember when you say institutional to grit your teeth a bit and get that certain look in your eyes and you too can be a leader in VOTF. This simplistic and silly view is that this is all just about a challenge to institutional Church’s authority. Like a father-son disagreement. Where the father must put the son in his place because he challenged his authority.
The following was my favorite question.
Is VOTF mainly made up of gray-haired heretics who are taking advantage of the priestly sex scandal to promote heterodox practices to try to Protestantize the Church?
Well maybe I only imagined the last question.

ROTFL. Maybe the VOTF doesn’t ask that last question before they are afraid of the answer… that they are indeed a whiney old heretic bunch.
Perhaps that is also the reason why they create so unashamedly biased surveys, to assure that no one gets to tell them what they don’t want to hear…
How come they call themselves Voice of the FAITHFUL? Faithful to what? Shouldn’t it be Voice of the Not-So-Sure? Or, Voice of the Faithful to Our Way of Thinking.
VOTFTOWT
Wow… I have formal training on information gathering techniques, which covers surveys, focus groups, user testing, etc. and I work for a marketing company that primarily does online surveys for big Pharma. I can state, with absolute certainty, that all but the last question on the VOTF survey page are worded to make the reader uncomfortable with answering contrary to the position VOTF holds.
Thus, any data they collect is useless for any real statistical purpose.
I’m really astounded and offended… that’s a REALLY dirty technique. In a survey question with two options, the question must be worded so that niether option sounds either cold-hearted, crazy, or too limiting. The language used is FAR from nuetral.
Now the first question is “Are you a member of VOTF?” Did they change their survey in mid-stream?
*scrunch*… *grimace*. instiTUtional!!!!!
Did I get it right?
I thought VOTF stood for Voice Of The Fuddled.
Oh… I was right… it does.
Does anyone remember the fun and games on the various incarnations of the VOTF message board when the “Situation” was still fresh? Those oldsters like their power raw.
If you want to see something REALLY funny. Go to their “young adults” page where they mention their 2002 conference. (Sorry, don’t know how to link) Right at the top, they brag about having 140+ attendees, then in the next line they say that most attendees were MOTHERS OF YOUNG ADULTS!!!! And, several members of religious communities. I will bet that they had next to no actual young adults. Not to mention, they consider you a young adult up to age 39???? I’m 31 and think the “young adult” days are over.
God love ya’ Susan, but I proclaim you a young adult (World Youth Day takes you up to the age of 39 — so get your tickets!). I just turned 40 and I don’t want to be considered positively decrepit at 60. Ha!
Thanks Teresa! I’ll take being called young if you’re offering!
