Why does this exist?? Have you ever known *anyone* who’s a fan of Haugen or Haas?
What’s the difference?
Huh? I don’t get it.
I guess I’m with A.Long. I don’t get it either.
I have read the spiritual authors who say that expiation of sin through suffering works waaaay better and is waaay easier on earth than it is in Purtagory. Sooo…..
Gosh, maybe that means I should start going to the Toronto diocesan parishes instead of the Oratory.
Naahhh the evil look on my face and the months of short temper it would induce would undo whatever merit I had gained…
Oh, the tour. One doesn’t have to listen to them sing, and I’ve never been to Greece. Besides, it’s generally a mistake to put off hardship to the future. I’d rather go on the tour and get it over, than know that I’d shanked and considerably exacerbated the situation.
As probably the only Catholic liberal who reads this SSPX-like crap, I wouldn’t mind the tour.
Nate
Haugen Haas: my favorite flavor is Chunky Monkey. I think….
The tour. I wouldn’t mind so much hearing them sing, but I’d have to slip out for some sightseeing during speeches.
Tough choice.

You don’t have to be schismatic to find the “music” of Haugen and Haas to be offensively awful. Protestants have better taste in music than this. Why can’t we? Oh yeah, we do. There’s a rich tradition of liturgical choral music in English (some of which my choir sings). Rule of thumb – if a hymnal was written after about 1960 (1975 at the very latest), throw it out.
Nate, nobody suggested we go back to all masses being in Latin. Name-calling isn’t going to get us anywhere. How likely are you to listen to my point of view if I call you a looney, liberal, sash-wearing, kumbaya-singing, Barnified heretic? Not very.
{/sarcasm}
I wouldn’t think twice about giving money to the UMC to obtain a CD of Charles Wesley hymns; the Negro spiritual “Were You There When They Crucified my Lord?” nearly brings tears to my eyes every time; Anglican bishop Reginald Heber’s “Holy, Holy, Holy” will always be one of my all-time favorites, going back to my days of singing it acapella in the Church of Christ. My point is that there have been great Protestant contributors to SACRED music.
I’ve seen the other potshots taken at these guys through various means, and haven’t always been comfortable with the tone taken, but then again some of us would like to sing about Him, not us, especially during the Eucharist.
The tour.
Such things are in part why God inspired man to invent Ouzo.
Half a bottle of Hellas’ national drink and I could listen to a Roseanne Barr aria.
If it was just Fr. Joncas I would go in a second. He knows so much it is scary, and I am pretty sure he would not sing”On Eagles Wings” at any time during the trip.
And just how do we know for sure that Purgatory doesn’t consist of nonstop Hass/Haugen ditties being performed by the “Disciples of Rhythm” a group that features a priest-guitarist in a baby-blue cassock and a teenage drummer who bangs in time to “The Stripper”?
John,
I know it because God is merciful and such a punishment could only be reserved for those who have rejected him.
At least Bob Hurd isn’t there…
When are the revisionist-leftist (neo protestants) still in the Church going to get it. The leftist hijackers of Vat 11s days are numbered,( the Bugnini mass, the heterodox prelates and priest are being marginalized in the reborn Orthodox-Traditionalist Church. Millions (particularly the 18-35 years olds catagory)worldwide are clamouring for a return to tradition. SSPX, Christ the King Sov priest,Frat Soc of St Peter, una voce ete. etc. are after years of being silenced by Holy Mother Church finally being listened to.The rape of the Liturgy, revised ecumenicism and many other element since the early 70s have made millions of Catholics (sadly) leave the Faith, Latin is in fact returning to Liturgical use The Traditionalist seminary’s are bursting at the seams, vocations to Traditionalist Abbeys, monasteries, and religious orders are also unable to handle the influx of vocations.Don’t the liberals get it, their days of messing with the Church and their humanist-modernity crap is OVER.The reconciliation of the Society of St. Pius X and the Vatican is not that far off, and the sickening leftist din of Schism will finally be silenced, Shalom John
