I don’t want to post about RatherGate all the time but there is just so much material to mine from these absurd events. In a interview last night Howard Kurtz reports that Dan Rather said this.
"If the documents are not what we were led to believe, I’d like to break that story."
Does he honestly think that a story doesn’t break until he reports on it? Sorry Dan, the story broke a week ago and by his standard of breaking news I have some of my own scoops.
Breaking News!!! Rome besieged by vandals.
Constantinople Sacked! – News at eleven.
Pearl Harbor bombed in sneak attack – developing.
We must remember that CBS is an objective news source. Their objective is to defeat Bush. You have to credit them for never letting facts get in the way of accuracy
Help Wanted: Well known news magazine wants document experts. No experience necessary.

If he really would like to break that story, then why doesn’t he help break it by giving us a clue as to who the source for the docs was? Not necessarily a name but just some background info.
Of course, Rather might have been trying to be sarcastic about it. For the record though, I don’t think it’s been conclusively proven these documents in question are forgeries. Except for those whose objective is to defeat Kerry. Does wanting a candidate defeated preclude one from being able to testify to the truth? Most likely, one has to lie or deceive … sort of like the Swift Boat vets.
Todd,
Are you kidding? It has been conclusively proven that those documents are forgeries. There is a $10,000 plus reward for anybody who can recreate them using circa 1970 equipment – no takers. Even the New York Times said they were fraudalent, thought they did try to portray them as accurate. Maybe you haven’t looked at the evidence that they are forgeries very closely or you might not have made such a silly statement.
Peace, Jeff.
A small issue, my friend. Swift Boats, forgers, I’ve become ennumbed to the whole thing. Who cares; the whole thing is turning into a farce. Reality shows have better scripts — and I don’t watch those either.
We care. This is much bigger than Watergate. It stinks, as does our news media, who lie to get what they want. It’s about time people realized that you cannot trust these turkeys.
