John Kerry in a speech to the UNITY 2004 Conference:
I believe I can fight a more effective, more thoughtful, more strategic, more proactive, more sensitive war on terror that reaches out to other nations and brings them to our side and lives up to American values in history.
What is a sensitive war on terror? Do you put happy faces on bombs and missiles? Do you have people knit missile cosies? Do you throw adjectives like thoughtful, smarter, strategic, proactive, sensitive till the terrorist gives un in exasperation or boredom?

What he really means is prostrating himself to France. But France will NEVER agree to anything. They’ve made it their policy to oppose anything America does. They will hate/oppose Democrats just as much as Republicans.
Democrats think incorrectly that this is America’s fault. Republicans think correctly that this is France’s fault.
Democrats always blame America first.
The Democrats and the French….don’t get me started about them. The Dems and the French deserve each other. Both are about at useful in a real crisis as a rubber beak on a woodpecker.
Remember when some sailors or airmen painted a “Happy Ramadan, Saddam” greeting on some bombs. And the Clinton Administration gave a long boot-licking apology to “The Arab Street”? THAT’s what a “more-sensitive war on terror” means.
I thought it was just “Happy Ramadan”, dropped on Afghanistan and the apology done by the Bush Administration?
Maybe my memory is off, but I would swear I recall this most recently happening in Afghanistan.
But if Gunner’s Mates and Aviation Ordnancemen can’t write on munitions, how will they maintain literacy skills.

Franklin:
Here is a contemporaneous reference to the events I was remembering, though it shows I had misremembered some of the details. What made it stand out and tickle my memory, and what gave it its relevance to Jeff’s point, was the Pentagon’s “sensitive” actions.
There was discussion of the timing of Ramadan in the media at the time (late 1998) of Desert Fox, because the PC “Islam means peace” Clintonistas in their never-ending desire to appease The Arab Street basically took off the table for Ramadan any military action against Saddam’s defiance of inspectors and no-fly zone violations. (This public discussion was probably the only reason your ordinary secular or Christian sailor would know Ramadan’s timing.)
Ironic extraneous thought: Madeleine Albright said since that Ramadan was upcoming, and Saddam Hussein and his WMD programs were such an imminent threat that several dozen missile strikes and bombing runs couldn’t wait a whole month — they had to happen RIGHT NOW. Remember when Democrats thought Saddam Hussein and his WMD programs were a grave, immediate threat to the world? And when they said Saddam Hussein and his WMD programs were such a grave, immediate threat to the world that questions about political timing in December 1998 were … mean-spirited and reckless?
