In a post I had done on the Commonweal article on St. Blogs a couple of commenters gave me some suggestions.
Gen X Revert said:
“Perhaps you could oblige Ms. Linner by creating a “blog” by a modern nun. “
Kathy Shaidle of Relapsed Catholic commented:
I love it! Do a parody site by Sister Mary Biko, and send an url to the author of this article, acting like you found it on the web and wanted her to see that leftist nuns blog too! Imagine how easy it would be to write. Just use words like doctorate and paradigm and sabbatical and teaching moment over and over.
I thought this idea had some potential. So I have created a parody blog by a progressive nun called Thoroughly Modern Mary. Scroll down to the bottom to start reading from the first post.

Unless I am missing the humor in this, I find this distasteful. I was raised to always respect religious (Remember how St. Francis knelt and kissed the hands of a natoriously sinful priest). I guess after 30 some years of being a Catholic and my own positive experience with nuns, I am uncomfortable to poke humor at them. Yah, there are plenty of bad ones out there, but I think too much attention is put on them, we need to focus on the good ones and get there message out there.
It would be more productive to have a blog from a devout nun, or quotes from her. The rest just seems like a tasteless joke. Nuns are spouses of Christ, and sadly I don’t feel myself ever qualified to pick at one of Christs spouses (even to make up a bad one for him).
Sorry, just my opinion, but this is your blog, and you might have a different style of humor from what I am used to.
I don’t know. Sr. Mary Biko can’t be *that* progressive. She refers to God as “he”.
Nice Q.E.D., Miller. Way to prove Linner’s critique.
Hehehehe. Reminds me of some I met at the vocations fair two weeks ago, which is why I spent the whole time hanging out with the Nashville Dominicans and some very sweet Poor Clares. Nuns in pantsuits are scary, and especially watch out for the ones in matching red fleece vests.
You are a nutcase. Which is why we love and laud you so much. 🙂
Jeff!
After avoiding crazy, “progressive” sisters for 2 years by hiding out at the Tridentine Indult Mass I thought I had finally gotten the sound of “the voice” out of my head, but it all came rushing back when reading that blog!
Absolutely hilarious!
just going to nit pcik (because everything else is SO perfectly parodically funny). I think you probably meant dialectic when you used the term dielectric.
I think this humorous spoof hit the target! The part that made me laugh out loud was Sister Biko saying The Theoscope had a “rather triumphant” picture of the Pope, and when I clicked there, it was the IL SuperPapa pic!
Dear Follow The Church: sounds like you don’t have a sense of humour to be used to… I was brought up to believe lots of junk: that Ronald Reagan was gonna blow up the world, that DDT caused cancer and that bad people put razor blades in Halloween apples. Then I grew up…
Curt, it may be too late. I think I;ve located the real Sister Biko… Like many progressives, she lists me on her blogroll because my site has a funny name, and we all know funny people can’t be conservative, right? She probably has TWO PhDs.

Oh no!
Sister Christer is interesting but it isn’t a total out and out progressive blog. Sure their are the mentions of some buzzwords, but it isn’t too out of balance. While she didn’t totally approve of Mel’s Movie TPOTC her review was fairly reasonable.
Though the following makes me wonder.
Did you catch the link to the Da Vince Code listed under brainfood? And the link to The Corner is not NRO.
Wow you’re getting busier and busier with your blog expansion business. Don’t neglect this blog though.. 😛
Dear Jeff,
You may have hit too close to the mark. Take a look at comments on my blog. At least one person thinks this woman belongs to sister Joan Chittister’s community! Obviously you have hit the mark and sent shivers of fear throughout St. Blogs.
shalom,
Steven
The links… they’re part of the joke too right?
They’re not real?!? No can’t be….
I think the Adrian Dominicans are qualified to be on the blogroll http://www.admc-op.org/
