I have heard Mel Gibson being sarcastically referred to as St. Mel in regards to the Passion of Christ Movie. I did not realize that their was actually a St. Mel Catholic Church appropriately in the diocese of Los Angeles. This must be a pretty upscale parish since their web site seems to be professionally done with PDF archives of their bulletins.
St. Mel seems to have been the nephew of St. Patrick.

St Mel parish was our parish for 5 years. While we were there, the music director was Shelly Cohen, a convert, who also was the music person for the Tonight show.
That was one parish in which I was not part of the music program.
My daughter went there for 1st and 2nd grade and made her first communion there. @ of our children were baptized there. None the less, we never felt welcomed or even really a part of the parish because instead of monetary wealth, we had children. There were large families in the parish, and other devout Catholics, but they also had lots of disposable income. It is the kind of parish where the school kids are dropped of my the maid driving the spare Mecedes Benz or BMW. I was much happier when we moved out of our rental and bought a house in los barrios – our local parish was predominantly mexican, and the parish we eventually joined was also mostly immigrants (filipino in that case).
that should be 2 (two), not @ above!
