In response to a 14-year-old-girl’s question about blogging, Dear Abby gives advice to bloggers that all online journalists would be wise to follow: “The written word takes on a life of its own and never dies — particularly in cyberspace. That is why it’s important that a person carefully consider what he or she is posting before making it public. I cannot urge people strongly enough to remember that on the Internet there is no such thing as an eraser.”

. . . . but there is a delete button.
No such thing as an eraser? She’s never heard of Blogger.
I love this aspect of the Internet. I realize that my own writing has probably kept me from ever running for President (look here, in 2003 he praised Francisco Franco, called himself militantly pro-tobacco, used the term Mohammedanism without scare quotes, and asserted that vegetarianism is a bunch of hooey), which is good. Wouldn’t you have loved to find a blog that Robert Byrd wrote fourty years ago (grandkleagel.blogspot.com?)?
It keeps us honest. We can say, “well, I have changed” but we cannot deny what we were.
Erik, grandkleagel.blogspot.com had me LOL for a bit. Thanks.
