Readers of a local newspaper were stunned when it turned out the winner of a Mother’s Day competition used to be a man.
Karen Buckley, 43, won an evening out after her partner Peter Keeffe put her name into the Somebody Special competition.
The pair were chauffeur-driven to a restaurant in a limo and Karen was presented with a beautiful bouquet, reports The Sun.
But when her photo appeared in the Rochdale Observer, some readers were stunned. They knew Karen was once a man called Tommy who had a sex-change operation four years ago.
One reader complained: “How can the winner of a Mother’s Day prize be a man? It makes a mockery of the whole thing. Yes, she has got children – but she’s their dad not their mum.”
