(Columbia-AP) March 13, 2003 – Three bills in the South Carolina legislature deal with abortion. One bill now in committee proposes erecting a monument outside the Statehouse that memorializes aborted fetuses.
Myrtle Beach Representative Thad Viers says the bill honors unborn children who have given their lives because of legal abortion.
Another abortion bill would establish that life begins at fertilization and is protected by the law at the time of fertilization. A third bill is a joint resolution that would hold a statewide referendum to see if South Carolina voters want to amend the Constitution to allow states to prohibit abortion.
