Steven Riddle of Flos Carmeli accepted
my request to participate in the Our
Lady of Loretto Carmelite Chapel group blog on the Carmelite way of prayer,
contemplation, and life. Being a follower of Marx (Groucho) my previous thought
process was
that I would not join any group blog which would have me as a member. At first
I thought this might be a trick by Steven to get me to have to post using blogger
again, but nobody would be that cruel.
My first post is
on the history of the
Carmelites and their beginning. For prayer requests that are posted on that
blog, email Steven and indicate
whether you want it to be anonymous or not.

Carmelite spirituality has always been fascinating to me. I was especially blessed to be entered in the brown scapular at the Carmelite monastery in Haifa (birthplace of the Carmelites) during a Jubilee Year pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I’ve thought about third-order institutes and have also been drawn toward Dominican spirituality (due to the example of an incredible Dominican priest) and Benedictine spirituality (due to a wonderful nearby Benedictine monastery).
Perhaps in the Carmelite blog, you and your blogmates might want to write about the requirements of a third-order Carmelite and how those who are discerning can find out how to investigate the possibility of lay institutes.
Best wishes with the new venture!
