An Australian retail chain has pulled from its shelves a
“voodoo doll” sold to kids together with a list of “spells” to chant while
sticking pins into it. The bright green doll, featuring in a Christmas gift
catalogue of the Sportsgirl fashion chain, caused consternation at schools and
among family groups, prompting the withdrawal decision. It came complete with 17
pins and instructions to generate ill-will toward people the doll’s owner
disliked. In order to break up a romance, the owner was told to attach pictures
of the couple onto the doll, then stick a pin into its heart while chanting: “I
don’t ever want to see your face again.” By sticking pins into the doll’s eyes
and chanting, “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to,” the user was told she
could ruin a party. [Full Story]
