A spokesman for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Frank
Lautenberg has retracted Lautenberg’s promise, offered just yesterday, that he
would meet his Republican opponent Doug Forrester for 21 debates in different
New Jersey counties before Election Day.
Asked whether his boss intended to honor the 21-debate
pledge, Lautenberg spokesman Tom Shea told WABC Radio’s Steve Malzberg,

I heard Jackie Mason on Fox News talking about the New Jersey
situation and he said that if the Democrats get behind in a debate the Candidate
can resign the debate and have another Democrat come in to answer the question.
Tag team politics could be interesting, I wish we would have had that option
when Bob Dole ran for President.
