Today St. Juan
Diego was canonized by the Holy Father. There must be a reason
why God has decided that after 450 years it was time for him to be
recognized as a saint. There wasn’t any political reasons involved
like in the case of St. Thomas
More. During Juan Diego’s time the practice of human sacrifice
was the norm in some of the native cultures, but within a short
period of time after the miraculous picture of Our Lady of
Guadalupe the inhabitants were converted and this human sacrifice
ended. Now we have the modern day equivalent of sacrificing
children in abortion. In both cases this was done for the reasons
of some supposed greater good for the indivual or society. The
Indian symbolism of the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe shows her
as being pregnant with Jesus and this picture has already been
closely connected with the pro-life movement. Juan Diego please
pray for the conversion of the world to the culture of
life.
